Twelve suspects. One ancestor. Only evidence wins.
A genealogy deduction game for 2–5 rival researchers.
A letter arrives from a stranger. Somewhere in the hill country, two hundred years ago, lived a woman no one in her family can trace. Twelve people could be the answer.
You and your rivals open the same archive: censuses, chapel registers, old newspapers, family letters. Each of you already holds documents the others haven’t seen. Some family stories are true. Some are not. The first to name the ancestor and prove it wins.
How it plays
Twelve candidates sit on the table, and you rule them out one record at a time. On your turn you can search the archive, question a rival, follow a lead to a sealed record, or ask the Archivist for a hint. Every document carries a seal: Record, Derived or Hearsay. A family story can point you in the right direction, but it can never prove anything on its own.
When you think you know, you accuse. Name the ancestor and cite three documents that prove it. Guess wrong, or prove it badly, and you’re out of the race. Get it right and you turn the page to meet her: her portrait, her real name, and the true story of how the family got it wrong.
What’s inside
Fifteen cases in three levels, five Beginner, five Intermediate and five Advanced, each one adding a twist of its own. The Core Kit holds the illustrated rules, quick-reference cards, and the Archivist and Solo/Co-op modes. Every case comes with 12 candidate cards, about 37 evidence and archive cards, a Research Sheet, the client’s letter and a sealed solution with the ancestor’s portrait. A Family Album lets you collect the portrait of every ancestor you find.
Good to know
Find the Ancestor plays with 2 to 5 players, best with 3 or 4, and includes Solo and Co-op modes. Beginner cases take 20–30 minutes, Intermediate 30–45 and Advanced 45–60. It’s suitable from age 12, and no knowledge of genealogy is needed. A Game Master is optional: the Archivist mode is ideal for classrooms, libraries, genealogy societies and themed parties.
You get an instant PDF download in A4 and US Letter, in Color and Low-ink versions. Cards are 63 × 88 mm, the standard sleeve size, nine per sheet with crop marks. No app, no internet and no research are needed: everything is on the table.
Every person, family and document in Find the Ancestor is invented. The method is real: weighing a record against a family story is how genealogists work every day.
For personal and household use. Print as many copies as you need for your own games.
